December 2007: Congratulations to CES graduate Keith Needham. Keith graduated with his Bachelor of Religious Studies from CES and then transferred into the Master of Divinity (M.Div.) program at Providence Theological Seminary in Otterburne, Manitoba, Canada. This is yet one more accredited school that has accepted CES credits and/or degrees. Keith reports that he's doing well in his program. He says, “At the present time, I am maintaining a 3.9 GPA on a 4.0 scale.”

November 2007: Congratulations to CES graduate Kevin McGraw. Kevin graduated with his Master of Theological Studies from CES and now has successfully transferred his credits from CES into the Master of Theology (M.Th.) degree program at South African Theological Seminary. This is yet one more accredited school that has accepted CES credits and/or degrees. SATS states that they will accept CES credits as partial fulfillment of their degrees.

October 2007: Congratulations to CES graduate Ben DeSpain. Ben wasted no time in moving on to his next degree; graduating with his Bachelor of Theology from CES in September 2007, he was accepted one month later into the Master of Arts in Theological Studies (M.A.T.S.) degree program at Erskine Theological Seminary.

August, 2007: Congratulations to CES Bachelor’s graduate Michael G. McConnell Sr. for nearing the completion of his Ph.D. Michael is the Police Chief with Webster City, Iowa. He earned his Bachelor of Religion with CES in August, 1998. Since then, he transfered into and complete an accredited Master of Science in Criminal Justice degree. Presently Mr. McConnell is in the dissertation stage of a Ph.D. with Northcentral University (Prescott Valley, AZ). Recently we received an update from Michael; he stated: “I am doing very well. I am in the back-and-forth stages of my dissertation draft proposal with NCU. You know the Bachelor of Religion I received from CES helped launch me. By the end of this year, I should be graduated with a Ph.D. in Business Administration with a Criminal Justice Administration Specialization.”

July, 2007: Congratulations to Dr. Ric Walston who has been selected to appear in the 2008 Edition of Marquis Who's Who in America. In a letter to Dr. Walston, Marquis stated that he will be included "because of the reference value of your outstanding achievements." Ric Walston—founder (1991) and director of Columbia Evangelical Seminary—continues to represent Columbia Evangelical Seminary in many educational, ministerial, and professional capacities.

June, 2007: Congratulations to CES graduate Gary Tronson of Poulsbo, WA. Gary has just been accepted into the Master of Arts program in Theological Studies at Liberty University. Mr. Tronson graduated from CES with both his Associate of Biblical Studies and his Bachelor of Theology in Apologetics. It’s great to hear of yet another successful CES transfer.

April, 2007: New Web Page on CES. CES has placed a new web page that provides questions and answers about academic writing. Over the years, students and non-students have asked questions about academic writing issues. We have decided to start listing these Q's and A's in the hope that it will serve as a good reference tool for our students, faculty, and others. To see this page, click on the link "For Students" (at the top right of this page); once there, click the link (in left hand column, Academic Q & A). If you have a Q about academic writing style, please email us with your question at CES@ColumbiaSeminary.edu.

April, 2007: Congratulations to Columbia Evangelical Seminary. This April marks the 16th year of CES Ministry. God has indeed blessed CES with some outstanding people, faculty, students, and graduates. We wish to thank all of you who have supported CES in the past and who continue to do so.

January 2007: CES faculty member becomes President of the University of Wales Lampeter, 1 January 2007.


CES Faculty member Dr R Brinley Jones CBE MA DPhil FSA

Congratulations to longtime (since 1992) CES faculty member Dr. R. Brinley Jones for his recent appointment to the position of President of the University of Wales Lampeter. Dr. Jones formerly served as the President of the National Library of Wales (1996-2007). Dr. Jones is a notable academic with his scholarship and publications reflecting his interest in the history of education and in the influence of the Renaissance and Protestant Reformation on Welsh culture. Among his writings are The Old British Tongue (1970), Certain Scholars of Wales (1986), William Salesbury (1994), Floreat Landubriense (1998), The Particularity of Wales (2001) and World-Wide Wales (2005). Dr. Jones lives in Llanwrda, is married to Stephanie and they have one son.

January 2007: CES faculty member has book published. Congratulations to Carmen DiCello for the publishing of his new book, Why? Reflections on the Problem of Evil (Wipf and Stock Publishers). The book provides a framework for thinking though the issues related to a Christian theodicy. DiCello surveys various explanations for the presence of evil in a good and sovereign God’s world, seeking to balance what we can know with what we cannot know about these baffling realities.
